God of All Comfort

Today, I read a short section in 2 Corinthians 1:3-11which focuses on comfort from God and praying for each other.

It meant a lot to me, especially with my wife’s cancer. I want to stop her pain, but it’s outside of my power. I think to myself – If we lose her, can I endure such a loss?

In today’s verses, the Apostle Paul, speaking from his own painful experiences, said: “God is the God of all comfort; if we allow Him, God comforts us in all our difficulties.” Paul, even as a Christian, experienced such extreme that he wanted to die.

But, Paul knew God was allowing it – so “we might not rely on ourselves, but rely on God.” And, in relying on God, the Apostle was able to say: “God delivered us…He will deliver us, and on Him we’ve set our hope that He’ll continue to deliver us.”

Even as Christians we may go through extremely painful times in life. But we have God. He’ll comfort us. And, praying for one another we help each other – by relying on God.
